Enabling space exploration through reliable entry systems

The Advanced Computational Center for Entry System Simulation (ACCESS) is a multidisciplinary institute that supports space exploration through entry system research. We help to expand our understanding of the universe by enabling human and robotic explorers to land safely on distant planets and to return to Earth from space.

Our vision

To empower space exploration by radically advancing the analysis of Entry Systems. We employ high-fidelity physics models with quantified uncertainty, in combination with innovative algorithms and high-performance computing, to determine Entry System reliability.

Revolutionizing entry system design

The successful outcome of the vision is to deliver an Integrated Simulation Framework for the comprehensive and affordable analysis of an Entry System with quantified uncertainty and reliability estimates. This framework will be ready for adoption by NASA and its contractors.

Connecting disciplines and world-class experts

There are a large number of interconnections within ACCESS, due to the highly coupled nature of Entry System processes. Through coordinated and synchronized research involving high-fidelity computation and experiments, our institute creates a space that allows multiple universities to share data, models, and codes, so that we can push the frontiers of science together.
